Gặp lại nhau mừng tủi mắt long lanh

All the roads

Which road leads you in recollection
Of our love the day we first met,
Above us, the tamarind trees filter the sunrays
Shading the path of your light footsteps.

Which road witnesses our cozy walk
Side by side searching for the immaterial destination
We are lost in a heavenly palace
And forget the way to the mundane world.

Which road records your image in a white dress
Strolling by the front-fighting soldier
Holding hands during the walk to the church
To ask God’s benediction for both.

Which road carries you to Mother’s natal land,
With the ferryboat by the shady bamboo hedge,
During noon in summertime, when a mother sings a lullaby
To her child sleeping peacefully on the hammock.

Which road directs you to Father’s country side,
Where the long river meanders silently?
In the fragrant wind, alive are the mature rice stalks, the declaiming verses
While the moon rises on a slant over the silver-crested mountain.

Where are the roads of the past now?
Close and intimate roads
Treasured roads of the country
Rendered inaccessible by vast oceans.

My love, help me search for
A road carrying me back to the old paths
In spite of obstacles, I will step forward
And reach the Motherland one day.

I will reach Motherland one day,
Shedding tears of happiness
On the old road celebrating my return
But where are you, road of my youth?
