The Bakery Incident
I saw the bakery across the street
Walking by, I thought I smelled you.
The bakery always smelled like you.
There was a woman in a red polka dotted dress
and a man in a brown hat.
Their fingers laced as they shared a tart.
Their eyes held each other’s silhouette
And nothing else seems to interrupt the images.
They were creatures of their own encapsulated universe,
Separated from this world so carefully monitored
and carelessly left me derelict.
What does fate play in this game?
How it taunts me while I carry on with my life unwittingly.
Like a destructive child absolved of his faults.
I thought of you while passing that bakery,
Fate has just begun to lead me to more.
