My True Beloved?
Like Drop of Dew, Like a Match, Who is My True Beloved?
“Love does not consist in gazing at each other,
but in looking together in the same direction.”
-Antoine de Saint-Exupery-
Poetically, the morning mist of dew is always romantic. Pure and fresh, it’s the first taste of the new day. While life is still sleeping, and the day is still dusk, the drop of dew vibrantly rolls on my hand. N. is like that drop of dew. Perfect! Neither cold nor hot, it's perfect! It gives me a warm feeling that night has never. The sun has not fully awakened yet; the Earth is peaceful. No marks, no writing - my heart is the white cloud high upon the sky. Innocently, I’m tiptoeing into the day. N. is the first one to give me the glimpse at this beautiful day. Gently, he let me taste life’s absolute sweetness with no bitterness. He honors me as the fairy tale princess. If anything is pure, fresh and beautiful, it’s the dew. If anything is unforgettable is the first chance at love.
I’m always thankful for that dew on my early morning. Besides the young me, it and I together wait for the horizons. N. is like that drop of dew; our memories are beautiful; his love is special; nevertheless, it has to end. Once the day awake with bright sunshine, the drop of dew evaporates and vanishes in an instant, as if it never existed.
………
Like a match burned up for a moment in my life and forever has gone out, D. is special. For the rest of my life, I’ll have many sunny days and cold nights, but will always remember this flickering light. Luminously, it burned quickly and suddenly extinguished; however, it is the reminder of the days I met a man named D. and found my life’s goals and dreams. He is my inspiration to be the best that I could for myself and for others. He taught me to: voice for the oppressed, the weak, the despaired, the forgotten, the rejected, and those who cannot speak for themselves; dream the impossible dreams; fight for others right; remember my Vietnamese roots; love without hesitation; give endlessly; forgive continuingly and to give my best at life. He is the match that has burned intensely but only extinguished moments later. The match’s light has not burned me; nevertheless, unintentionally, it impresses a smoky imprint on me. Perhaps the smoky mark never allows me to forget D for the rest of my life. D helps me defined the path of my life. In our world, we have neither princess nor prince; there is no fairy-tale love, but two people whose love is not limited gazing at each other only. D’s path of life is becoming mine. Truly, I wish that one day I would be all that D have dreamed of me. Hopefully, I’ll be able to help win each and all battles that he has fought for others, whom are voiceless. I want to finish any and every incomplete works and dreams that D could not achieved. I wish at the end of D’s life he has nothing to regret. My future has dwelted on the same path as D’s.
The length of time D has been in my life is not significant; it is not important how we met; it doesn’t matter what has happened between us; it is insignificant where path of life will take us both. If there is such thing as a soul mate, D is mine, and that is the most essential fact of my life’s story.
P.S. Both N. and D. are only representations of love – first, last, or even true love are only relevancies of Love, mere reflections of Love --- a Love that's larger than T., D., you and I, and our feelings. A drop of dew or a match or anything else comes and goes within its timing, within our timing.
At least that’s what I believe.
